Remembering George Floyd

Black Lives Matter. George Floyd mattered. Girl Friday Productions stands with our theatre community in outrage and grief over the murder of Mr. Floyd by members of the Minneapolis Police. We hear and see the profound pain of BIPOC theatre artist colleagues. We recognize that as an arts organization founded by a white, female artistic director, we have benefited from white privilege and perpetuated white supremacy. We know that change we want to see starts with us.

As Girl Friday Productions continues exploring stories of human hope and resilience, we pledge to broaden our narrative lens, expand our efforts in inclusive casting and production contracts for BIPOC theatre artists, and implement anti-racism training for ourselves and our board. We pledge to listen to and learn from our colleagues and community. This is just a start, but we take inspiration from the groundswell of work for justice and community service.
